This video will show you how to correctly prepare for painting any new aftermarket replacement part.
- Start by roughly sanding the black primer using the 320-grit sandpaper.
- When you’re done, use the abrasive pad and sand the fender once again.
- Repeat the process for the other side. Make sure you don’t miss a spot.
- Watch out for imperfections and dents that could need some fixing prior to applying primer. What you want is a smooth and even surface.
- If any areas of the new part are going to be exposed to the road like the inside of a fender, we strongly suggest you spray it with gravel guard to protect it from minor dents and premature rusting.
- Wipe off any excess gravel guard and drips with a shop rag and let it dry.
- When dry, spray the interior of the fender with 2 fine coats of sealer primer. Let it dry.
- Repeat the process and spray the outside with 2 fine coats of sealer primer and let it dry completely according to the manufacturer’s recommendations before moving onto next step.
- When the primer is completely dry, sand the fender once again using the 500-grit sandpaper. Watch out not to sand through the primer!
- Finish sanding using the abrasive pad one last time.
- Repeat the process for the other side.
- Use a blow gun to remove dust from the fender and wash it with any good surface cleaner.
- Make sure you are in a well-ventilated room and wear the appropriate safety gear from now on.
- To remove any dust or sand left, wipe the fender thoroughly inside in out with a tack cloth.
- Because you won’t be able to paint it once the fender is mounted on the car, spray paint the interior beforehand. Let it dry.
- Apply another coat of paint. Let dry.
- When completely dry, wipe the fender once again with a tack cloth.
- Apply one good coat of clear coating on the inside of the fender. Let dry.
- Install the fender on the vehicle and prepare surrounding areas to receive paint.
- That’s it!
