The 5 Best BMW Cars Ever Made

This kind of list may never be perfect, and we’re sure there will be some different views when it comes to the best of this iconic brand, but we thought we would stick our neck out and pick what we thought were the most important BMW models of all time.

So here we go…

BMW E39 M5

This is often seen as the very best version of an M5 ever. The M5 was a beautiful line of BMW cars. This one was the first to have an eight-cylinder engine. The best thing about the car, however, as anyone who drove one of these beauties will attest to, is the fact that it can make 0-60 in just five seconds. No wonder it’s still one of the most-loved BMWs, even today.

BMW Z3 M Coupe

Okay, the Z3 was not to everyone’s taste (many people prefer the later Z4), but the M3 model was an absolute beast. Rarely seen on roads today due to its exclusivity (and the fact it had a ridiculously short production run from 1998 to 2002), it is definitely one you should buy if you see it.

BMW M1

Now, this is one you definitely don’t see every day. The M1 was part of a beautiful but truly tragic collaboration project between Lamborghini and BMW. The relationship didn’t exactly work out, so BMW moved forward with their idea in 1978.

It was a race car, pure and simple, the kind you see on a race track. The special model was not around for long and is now definitely a collector item.

The M3

This is a beast of a vehicle. To be honest, it is one of those cars that shouldn’t technically be on the road. A racing car without stripes and sponsors, the M3 is an incredibly powerful BMW that is completely legal to drive on the road. It’s such a powerful beast, in fact, that the parts for this machine are in high demand.

However, rather than being some high-end thing that only true racers want to buy, it is seen a lot and is still very popular on UK roads. Get inside one, and you will feel like you’re on a racetrack. I hope that whoever is driving it knows what they are doing.

BMW E36 M3

This beauty was manufactured by BMW from 1992 until 1999. It’s definitely not one of the best-looking BMW cars out there. In fact, it’s kind of ugly, to be honest.

Get under the bonnet, though, and you’ll soon see you’re working with a seriously powerful vehicle. The car has a six-cylinder engine that can produce a corking 321 hp.

Not for the shy types, the car has often been converted (let’s be honest, not a lot of conversion is required) into a race track vehicle. That’s right, if you had one of these in the 90s, you were race-ready.

That’s our list of the best BMW cars we know. All of them show the best side of the brand, and all of them were faster than pretty much anything else when they hit the roads.
