How To Repair A Cracked Plastic Auto Body Part Using Epoxy

This video will show you how to repair a cracked plastic auto body part using epoxy.

TOOLS NEEDED:

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. 1. Before doing to repair, make sure of a good preparation of the damaged area. If you’re not sure, watch our video: How to prepare an auto body plastic repair part for repair.
  2. By using the mixing tip, on a mixing plate, on a mixing plate, pour the glue and the activator evenly to make sure both products are well mixed.
  3. Apply a thin layer of glue on the entire tear.
  4. Using a plastic spreader, spread the glue evenly over the tear.
  5. Make sure you have enough glue to cover the tear, if not, immediately apply a second coat for a proper build.
  6. Prepare a plastic repair reinforcing tape by cutting to shape. Next, apply the tape to the repair.
  7. Immediately apply another coat to cover the reinforcing tape.
  8. Using the same plastic spreader, spread the glue evenly to cover the tape.
  9. Allow to dry according to the setting time of the manufacturer before handling (refer to the technical data sheet or directly to the glue tube, work time).
  10. For a double-sided repair, repeat the same steps without the reinforcement tape.
  11. Apply a thin layer of glue on the entire tear.
  12. Using a plastic spreader, spread the glue evenly over the tear.
  13. Wait according to the manufacturer’s references (sand time on average 15-20 min.) before sanding to P100/P120.
  14. Once dry, sand with P100/P120, until you have a smooth surface.
  15. Once well sanded, finish with finishing putty or directly apply primer.
  16. That’s it!
